The Hartt School is hosting Chiraag Bhakta, a Hartford Art School alum (’99 VCD) and a multidisciplinary artist whose practice is rooted in collecting objects and stories. Chiraag Bhakta was selected to be the inaugural Whitney Artist in Residence at The Hartford Art School for the 2022-23 academic year. The event will take place in the Silpe Gallery (Hartford Art School) on October 19th from 2:30-3:45 pm. The discussion will be moderated by Billie Lee, Assistant Professor of Fine Arts. Billie Lee is also an artist and writer working at the intersection of art, pedagogy, and social change.

Bhakta’s work draws from his training as a graphic designer and also includes printmaking, collage, photography, and assemblage. The picture attached is a digital photograph taken by Bhakta in 2017 called Study With Light. Last spring Bhakta had two works of art exhibited at the Handwerker Gallery in Ithaca New York called “Visions and Nightmares” and “Why You So Negative.” In 2021 Bhakta was interviewed by The Irregular Times, India’s first art and design newspaper that showcases artists from across the world.
