The Grammy’s Making a Comeback?

Maddie Gill, Managing Editor

The 65th annual Grammy awards this past Sunday proved to be quite enjoyable to watch for once. I suppose it depends on your music taste and whether or not your favorite artists are in the running for such prestigious awards, but the program attempted to be more inclusive. For years, the award show’s ratings have tanked astronomically with big-name artists publicly denouncing the authenticity of the Recording Academy. Drake, Nicki Minaj, and the Weekend are just a few who have complained about the awards being unfair. This year though, with the 50th anniversary of hip-hop being celebrated, the performances were fantastic. Genre icons were honored for their impact on the industry, Beyoncé made history by becoming the most awarded artist, and Kim Petras became the first transgender woman to win a Grammy. So, needless to say, the Recording Academy is working hard to make the show more interesting. Is it still a biased schmooze-fest? Definitely. But it’s nice to see some new faces win for once. Thankfully, we weren’t bombarded with social media influencers who didn’t belong there and were graced with fabulous looks on the red carpet – even if Harry Styles’ outfit was questionable, I still love him.
