Last Friday, the women’s lacrosse team took on the Westminster Titans in Hilton Head, South Carolina. After taking a year-long hiatus, the Hawks have come out firing in their 2023 campaign. Hartford remains undefeated on the season following the 20-7 win over the Titans.

In the first half, Hartford wasted no time to get the offense rolling with three goals in the first two minutes. Scoring those three goals were Lenaijah Ferguson, Emily Steele, and Meghan Smith. For the remainder of the opening period, both sides would trade goals back-and-forth giving Hartford the lead 5-4 going into the second period. Despite it being a close game in the first frame, the Hawks put the pedal through the floor as five players combined to outscore the Titans 10-1, giving them a 15-5 lead going into halftime.

The second half lived up to the hype as Hartford shut out Westminster in the third quarter. The shutout was led by Hanna Ramsey as she was a brick wall in front of the net. As well as holding the Titans to zero goals in the third, the Hawks put up four more goals to add to their commanding lead. With a 19-5 lead going into the fourth, there was no looking back for Hartford. Westminster made an attempt at a comeback by outscoring their opponents 2-1 in the final frame, but that was not enough. Dominating offense and lockdown defense paved the way for Hartford’s impressive 20-7 win over Westminster. Lily Belle Baker and Meghan Smith both recorded their fourth hat trick of the season and Hanna Ramsey picked up her sixth win in net.

Next up for the Hawks is a home game against St. Michael’s tomorrow at Al Marzook Field. Opening draw control is set for 2 p.m.
